Dear Colleagues and Friends,
it is our honor and pleasure to invite you to participate at the ESPHI biannual meeting to be
held in Athens Greece, September 14-16, 2007. Many of you probably know that ESPHI was
started off by a handful of Paediatricians from European Countries, pioneers in Paediatric
Haematology and Immunology, 40 years ago. Thus, in the Athens' meeting we will have the
opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Society, and honor those who have worked
as Presidents in the past.
The scientific umbrella chosen for this coming ESPHI meeting is "Advances in Paediatric Haematology and Immunology: from bench to bedside".
To optimize patient's medical care and quality of life further and consequently to promote further research, we have to stimulate the exchange of knowledge, information, experience and ideas among clinicians and researchers working in both subspecialities as well as amongst young paediatricians caring children in or out of a hospital setting. Therefore, besides the stateof- the art scientific program, we have decided to provide an educational session on the morning of September 14th. Moreover, oral and poster sessions will be included in the program. Greece, a small country, located at the southernmost tip of Europe, has a rich history which goes back more than 4000 years. Greece is the birthplace of Hippocrates, father of Medicine. Many of today's diseases have been recognized from his era.
Athens, capital of Greece and home of the world's first democracy, is built around Acropolis, the city's most famous feature. Athens is the largest city of Greece with approximately 4 million inhabitants and nowadays dominates the economic, cultural and political life of modern Greece. Renovation of the city and new constructions for the Olympic Games of 2004 have made the city more human, friendly, and attractive than ever.
We look forward to welcoming you to Athens in 2007. We promise that we will try to organize a congress with an interesting scientific and social program and to ensure that you will have the opportunity to enjoy the late summer in this bright city.
